Contemporary Luxury that values History

Cliff at Lyons occupies an important historical site on the banks of Kildare’s Grand Canal, consisting of a collection of historic village houses, a barracks, forge and mill. The big house nearby was an important Irish estate, Lyons Demesne, belonging to an old Kildare dynasty, which was then bought by Tony Ryan, co-founder of Ryanair.

With the conversion of cottages, and their interior decoration, you will recognise the original architectural bones, while the landscaping remains true to the original gardens, orchards and water features.

The highlight is the atmospheric watermill and the mill race, which thunders along one side of The Village’s oldest building.

Follow in the footsteps of Arthur Guinness

Arthur’s Way is a heritage trail across northeast County Kildare that follows in the footsteps of Arthur Guinness.

In just 16 km, it links many of the historic sites associated with Ireland’s most famous brewers – the Guinness family. Visitors are invited to explore Celbridge – where Arthur spent his childhood, Leixlip – the site of his first brewery and Oughterard graveyard, a 20 minute walk from Cliff at Lyons – Arthur’s final resting place near his ancestral home.
