Our Restorations
Contemporary luxury that values its history.
Cliff at Lyons occupies an important historical site on the banks of Kildare’s Grand Canal.
The barracks, forge and mill originally formed a lockyard. The big house nearby was an important Irish estate, Lyons Demesne, belonging to an old Kildare dynasty, which was then bought by Tony Ryan, co-founder of Ryanair.
Tony Ryan, whose private chapel is located within the property’s grounds, committed millions to the restoration of ‘The Village’ (as the lockyard buildings became known).
The hotel’s new owners have continued in the same conservationist vein.
With the conversion of cottages, and their interior decoration, you will recognise the original architectural bones.
The buildings are largely constructed from granite and slate, while the landscaping remains true to the original gardens, orchards and water features.
The highlight is the atmospheric watermill and the mill race, which thunders along one side of The Village’s oldest building.
